Camp Lookinback 2024

Join us for Camp Lookinback, hosted July 9-12, 2024 at the John Jay French Museum! *The French Museum will be closed to the public from July 9th-13th*

Camp Lookinback is a fun and educational four-day summer camp held on the grounds of the historic John Jay French Museum. Children, ages 6-11, experience another time in Texas history while in a safe and enriching environment. Each day, children will get to perform hands on activities related to the 1800s. Camp Lookinback is fun for both boys and girls!

Registration is required and SPACE IS LIMITED to 45 CHILDREN and filled on a first come first serve basis. Cost per child is $75.00 for Non-Members and $65.00 for BHS Members. Refund policy: If you need your payment refunded, please contact us prior to camp starting. Once camp has begun, we will not issue refunds.

Camp Schedule
Camp Lookinback 2024 will be held in one session: Tuesday, July 9th – Friday,  July 12th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Camp Lookinback is based on a three-year rotating curriculum for a new experience each year. Each day consists of three hands-on activities. This year, activities include (subject to change):

SUDS N’ SILHOUETTES – Campers will take a tour of the John Jay French Museum, learn how to make soap, and sit for silhouettes! Snack: Silhouette sugar cookies.

BEARS, BEES, AND BISCUITS – Campers will visit with a local beekeeper and her colony, make biscuits and butter, and hear from Tyrrell Park Nature Center about black bears! Snack: Biscuits and honey.

BULLSEYE! – Campers will try their hand at archery with Village Creek State park, get to punch tin, and learn about local wildlife with Sea Rim State Park! Snack: “Tin-punching” sugar cookies.

IS SHE A SPY? – Campers will become Civil War spies, learn about blacksmithing, and hear about local wildlife from the Big Thicket! Snack: “Campfires” – crackers with sliced grapes, pretzel sticks, and cheese.
