Join us for Camp Lookinback, hosted July 11-14, 2023 at the John Jay French Museum! *The French Museum will be closed to the public from July 11th-15th*

Camp Lookinback is a fun and educational four-day summer camp held on the grounds of the historic John Jay French Museum. Children, ages 6-11, experience another time in Texas history while in a safe and enriching environment. Each day, children will get to perform hands on activities related to the 1800s. Camp Lookinback is fun for both boys and girls!

Registration is required and SPACE IS LIMITED to 45 CHILDREN and filled on a first come first serve basis. Cost per child is $75.00 for Non-Members and $65.00 for BHS Members.

Camp Schedule
Camp Lookinback 2023 will be held in one session: Tuesday – Friday July 11th-14th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Camp Lookinback is based on a three-year rotating curriculum for a new experience each year. Each day consists of three hands-on activities. This year, activities include (subject to change):

HORSIN’ AROUND – Campers will take a tour of the John Jay French Museum, visit horses brought by Stable Spirits, and make yarn dolls. Snack: Graham Cracker Quilts.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES – Campers will visit with a local beekeeper and his colony, learn about the food webs and ecosystems around us, and hear from Tyrrell Park Nature Center about owls! Snack: Biscuits and Honey.

BUGGING OUT – Campers will go on a bug safari, learn about animal adaptations, and cook over an open flame! Snack: S’mores.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY – Campers will celebrate Christmas in the 1800s, make paper quilts, and learn about wild animals! Snack: Iced gingerbread cookies.
