Heritage Happy Hour – The Chambers House Museum
11/18/2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm| $10
Join us for our next Heritage Happy Hour on November 18th from 5:30-7:30 pm! Enjoy craft beer showcased by Giglio Distributing Co., wine, and a movie on the lawn of the beautiful Chambers House Museum! Bring a lawn chair or blanket and snacks to sit and enjoy a showing of Casablanca on the grounds starting at 5:45 p.m.
The Chambers House Museum was built in 1907 by local lumberman Hardee Turner before being purchased in 1914 by C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers. They moved into the home with their two young daughters, Ruth, 11 and Florence, 16 months old. The house was remodeled extensively in 1924, and never changed or modernized again. Members of this family occupied and cherished this home for the rest of their lives. Nearly 90 years of family possessions were found in the home upon Florence Chambers’ death in 2004, many dating to the time of the 1924 remodel. The bottom floor of the home will be open for walk-throughs.
About Casablanca: Casablanca (1942) stars Academy Award winners, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Rick Blaine owns a nightclub in Vichy-controlled Casablanca, frequented by refugees desperate to escape German domination. Despite the ever-present human misery, Rick manages to remain uninvolved in World War II now raging across Europe and Northern Africa. But all that changes when Ilsa Lund walks through the front door of Rick’s club–Rick must now choose between a life with the woman he loves and becoming the hero that both she and the world need.
