August 22 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm| $10
Join us for our next Heritage Happy Hour at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church! Celebrating 120 years of organization~ established in Beaumont in 1898, making it the first recorded Orthodox Church in Beaumont, and the second Orthodox Church in North America. Learn about the history of the church, begun by various immigrant families from regions of Syria, Lebanon, and Greece who had migrated to Beaumont in the late 19th century, while enjoying craft beer provided by Giglio Distributing Co or wine underwritten by Earth Analytical Sciences, Inc. (non-alcoholic beverages are also available).
St. Michael Orthodox Christian Church, located at North and 15th Street and dedicated on November 29, 1953, is the third documented place of worship for the congregation following the the tragic loss of two previous churches; one in a sudden storm in 1919 and another in a fire on Mother’s Day, 1952. Today, its resilient congregation remains ethnically diverse, including members with Middle Eastern, Greek, Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian, and Romanian backgrounds, as well as non-ethnic converts. Tours will be given by members of the congregation, so don’t miss this opportunity to learn about this special church community and see their beautiful place of worship! Heritage Happy Hour is always FREE to members and $10 for Non-Members 21+.
Heritage Happy Hour is an on-going partnership between the Beaumont Heritage Society and Giglio Distributing Co. typically held every other month, with each event highlighting an historical exhibit, time, or landmark, as well as a craft beer or brewery. We believe that by promoting and sharing our local history and its historical significance in a fun and social way, we can also share and promote the efforts to preserve Beaumont’s historical landscape and heritage .
