Heritage Happy Hour – Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown
February 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Join us for our next Heritage Happy Hour on February 17th, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown. Enjoy craft beer showcased by Giglio Distributing Co., wine, and a tour of the Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum!
The Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located at 5550 Jimmy Simmons Blvd, Beaumont, TX 77705 to commemorate the discovery of oil at the Spindletop Hill salt dome in Beaumont on Jan. 10, 1901. The discovery sparked a massive oil boom in Texas that continues today. Near the original Spindletop site, Gladys City, founded in 1892, quickly became a bustling factory town for wildcatters to buy leases and live while tapping into the Spindletop oil boom. In 1901, three men had struck the Lucas Gusher, the biggest the world had seen at the time! People flocked from all over to take cash in on the black gold that flowed forth from the gusher. In 1975, a replica of the Gladys City Boomtown was created to preserve the city’s bustling beginning. Today, the museum still prospers, showcasing what life was like in a bustling oil town in the early 1900s. Take a stroll around the town, which includes a post office, saloon, general store, livery, working print shop, and working replica gusher! This discovery ultimately put Beaumont, Texas on the map, and forever changed its history.
